I’ve had a bit of work come through the past couple of weeks which has kept me busy here in Adelaide. I delivered leaflets for a couple of days with an aussie fellow, getting $50 each time. Also I worked two days in a furniture shop warehouse, moving the stock around as directed by the boss, I did it with another bloke from the hostel and the days went pretty quick, $20 a hour, 9 – 5, however the stock consisting mainly of garden tables and chairs was quite heavy going and my poor pencil pushing hands took a battering, I’ve got a blister on my hand the size of an apple. Lastly I worked today painting a house, an Aussie couple rent houses and are doing up a recently vacated property, so they called up the hostel asking for two people who can paint, me with my previous hostel painting experience was the natural choice.
Helen has had more consistent work at the restaurant, with more hours coming her way now and she is working 20-30 hours per week. Also Helen put her artistic talent to work and drew an advert for a tour on the hostel window (picture below), it took a couple of afternoons but the owner gave her $150 for her troubles.
Other than work we visited the maritime museum in Port Adelaide which was good, lots of interesting stuff on the medical procedures in the Royal Navy. Port Adelaide itself was nothing special, in fact there wasn’t much there at all, which shows as I didn’t bother taking any photos of the place.
We also visited the Gorge National Park where they have lots of Aussie wildlife, we saw alligators and wombats and even got to cuddle a koala! A must if visiting Australia.
I saw my first thunderstorm here in Australia the other day, we watched it out on the balcony for a good half an hour trying (and eventually succeeding) in taking a photo of it.
Apart from work and trips out we are also planning our next stage of travel, as it stands we are thinking of staying here for about three more weeks then we will move onto Melbourne.
G’day mate – just wrote you a huge message and it froze, assume it all got lost!!!
please have a beer and make a toast to all your ‘pommie’ relatives!!!
Glad to see you are still enjoying life down under. Shame you cannot get some decent work (the hand looks sore – should have worn gloves!!) painting is nice work but doesn’t pay much I shouldn’t think! Would imagine it’s beginning to warm up over there – it’s raining here (well what else do you expect) but very warm for November.
Just want to wish you a very happy birthday – don’t know how you will celebrate but whatever you do hope you gave a great day
Take care – lots of love – The Cootes xxxx
Hey Aunt Jayne!
No sign of your other message so it must have been lost in the machine.
Yeah life under is going well, except for work that is. I should have worn gloves for that job, or I’ve been told I need to have a spoonful of ‘man up and get over it’. Weather here is getting very warm, it was 38 degrees today and now (at 1am) it is still 24 – I shouldn’t complain but that’s just too hot!
I’ve just put up a post for my birthday, got up to the usual birthday things such as: visiting a nudist beach and hiking up the local mountain. Made sure I had a couple of beers for all
Take care and love to everyone
